Getting Started

Your role as coach at Carina Redsox is an important one. To help you get started we have created this guide which aims to answer all of your initial questions. Please take the time to read through the information provided.

Who is the club?

Carina Redsox is a club of members (players and parents of players). The club is run by a volunteer committee. The committee is elected at the AGM every March. We have a President, Secretary, Treasurer, Senior teams – Vice President, Junior teams – Vice President. The committee meets once a month.

You can find contact details for the committee here.

If you ever need assistance or have a question, please get in touch with one of the committee members. We are all passionate about baseball and want Carina to be your club of choice – we are happy to help!

Teams

You will be notified by the Senior VP (for senior teams, including u20s) or the Junior VP (for teams from tee ball to senior league) of the players on your team. We aim to have the team list available to you a few weeks prior to the season commencing.

The list will only include the names of registered players. (This process is made difficult by players registering late in the pre-season). Sometimes there will be late additions to your team list – although the club will endeavour to keep these disruptions to a minimum.

Games

For all teams (except for teeball and rookie ball), game times and venues are determined by the competition governing body – the GBL. The season draw is published on the Baseball Queensland website; please make sure the check the draw each week as changes do occur in times/locations of fields.

For teeball and rookie ball teams, game times and venues are determined by the competition governing body – Brisbane Metro. The season draw is published on the Brisbane Metro website; please make sure the check the draw each week as changes do occur in times/locations of fields.

Wet Weather

The club has comprehensive wet weather procedures. Those procedures can be found here.

Training

Senior teams – your training can commence as soon as the registration portal is open for new season sign on. It is your responsibility to ensure only registered players are participating in pre-season training. Players not covered by insurance are NOT permitted to commence training.

Junior teams – you will be advised of the dates junior training will commence. It is the responsibility of the Junior VP to ensure only registered players are participating in pre-season training. Players not yet registered for the new season are generally permitted to commence training – however they are permitted to attend two training sessions as part of the club’s “come and try” program.

Uniforms

Senior teams coaches as well as coaches for junior league, senior league and u20s teams are required by the GBL to wear the team uniform when coaching senior games (all Divisions).

Coaches for junior teams (Little League and younger) are required to wear a Carina Redsox club polo, a Carina Redsox cap and wear closed in shoes. Carina Redsox will subsidise the cost of the polo shirt and cap for you to wear at training and at games.

Field Locations

Carina uses two venues for home games – the Diamond at Zahel Street and the softball fields at Preston Road. All homes games for Little League Bandits and older are played at Zahel Street. Almost all home games for teeball through to Little League Rams are played at Preston Road.

Fields for away games will be listed on the draw – locations of those fields can be found here.

First Aid

The club provides first aid equipment for you to use in the case of an injury. On training nights, the first aid kit is located in the umpire room at the main diamond. There is also a small freezer with bags of ice available if needed.

On game days, you can access the first aid kit from the canteen.

For teams playing at Preston Road, the first aid kit is available in the Preston Road kit bag.
