Games are run by Baseball Queensland with clubs from Beenleigh to Ipswich to Narangba. Home games are played on the main diamond or the clubs Preston Rd fields. Team Sizes are 9 on the field plus bench players up to 10 or 11 in total. This is the first level of baseball where children are separated into two groups based on their skill level, Division 1 & Division 2.
This is also the first level where a semi-competitive environment is introduced with scores recorded and finals played however the emphasis is still on skill development and equal participation. Although players are rotated though a variety of positions throughout the season this age group sees children starting to focus on more specific roles within the team.
Modified Baseball to the rules as per Little League international. All pitching by opposition players with most normal baseball rules except runners are not allowed to take a lead. Normal baseballs are used for the first time.
Some Division 1 players will receive an invitation to participate in the Brightkey Redsox Academy Squad. This is the also the first opportunity for exposure at a representative level. Carina RedSox is one of four members of the Brisbane Metro Association which enters teams in the State Championships each year and who often progress to the Australian National Little League Finals.
Division 2 plays with the same modified ball as the u10’s to improve confidence and reduce injuries. Whilst players still pitch to the opposition the rules are modified to assist game play continuity and player enjoyment, this is achieved with no “base on balls”. After four balls the batter hits the ball off the tee.
Training will commence late Aug with first game likely to be Oct 7. The regular season usually consists of 9 to 10 Saturdays in School Term 4 with another 6 to 7 Saturdays In Term 1 after school returns from the Xmas break. Finals are usually held in the last 2 weeks of Term 1. There are no games or training during the Xmas school holiday period.
